sites to scenic beaches, a sand-sea, highland-lakes,
volcanoes, marine gardens and wildlife reserves.
As the power in Central Java declined around the
tenth century, powerful kingdoms rose in East

KALIMANTAN
|
Kalimantan
is the Indonesian part of Borneo and takes up most
of this great island of 1000 kilometers from East
to West when measured along the equator. The overall
population of Kalimantan averages 10 inhabitants
per square kilometer, a reflection of the generally
poor soil. It is under populated by people, but
rich in species of trees, lianas, rattan and orchids.
And through the rainforests wind the rivers, often
kilometers wide by the time they reach the sea.
When flying over Kalimantan, these rivers, glinting
in the sun, seem the only break in what appears
to be one unending carpet of green, a forest whose
only rival is the Amazon.Klick

SUMATRA
|
Sumatra
is the fifth largest island in the world, roughly
the size of Spain or California, and accounts for
one fourth of the total Indonesian land area. It
offers dramatic contrasts and some of the most spectacular
volcanic landscapes in the world. In fact, an unbroken
chain of volcanoes runs down the entire western
side of the island. One of the most remarkable features
is Lake Toba. It fills the caldera of a massive
volcano, which exploded in a powerful eruption about
100.000 years ago.
